About myhospitalcare.ca
This website reflects the Ontario Hospital Association’s (OHA) commitment to transparency and openness concerning the performance of hospitals and the health care system. The site is designed to make public information about hospitals not only accessible, but useful to prospective and recurring patients, and their families. By making this performance data more easily accessible to the public, the OHA is also helping hospitals become more accountable.
Designed to show the measurements that interest you most
The site uses measurements, or ‘indicators’, selected from the Hospital Report Research Collaborative, the Canadian Institute for Health Information, the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, and which we believe are of the greatest interest to members of the general public.
The indicators on this site were selected with input from a panel of health care experts representing the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI); Hospital Report Research Collaborative (HRRC), now part of Health System Performance Research Network (HSPRN); the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC); Ontario Health Quality Council (OHQC); the OHA; and the University of Toronto Department of Health Policy, Management & Evaluation (HPME).
The indicators highlight information that is relevant to the patient experience and relate specifically to quality of care – i.e. indicators members of the general public are most interested in.
The OHA has worked and continues to work closely with the University of Toronto Citizens’ Council to understand and to learn more about the hospital performance and quality indicators that patients find most important. The OHA will also hold public consultations in the future to ensure that myhospitalcare.ca continually captures the information that Ontario patients seek.
Results for information, not comparison shopping
Myhospitalcare.ca is not meant as a tool to facilitate or encourage "comparison shopping" by patients, but rather as a means to educate patients on the information that is available to them and how they can use it to become active participants in their own health care.
Currently, the site includes measurements on acute care, paediatrics, emergency, rehabilitation, mental health, chronic and complex care, as well as general satisfaction indicators such as the patients’ overall impression of their hospital experiences. Also included are measurements showing rates of hospital deaths and infections.
